Households Powered
Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions in Tonnes
Water Saved in Megalitres
Equivalent Cars Removed from the Road
Equivalent Trees Planted
- Households Powered is based on annual household electricity consumption of each operating country derived from Residential Electricity Consumption data obtained from the International Energy Agency (2020) and number of households data derived from population data from United Nations (2023) and household size data taken from United Nations (2022) and Statista database (2022)
- Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction is calculated assuming that the generation from renewable energy plants replaces an equal quantity of electricity generated using coal, gas and oil. Unique GHG emissions factors were calculated for each country based on each country’s GHG emissions factor published on the UNFCCC Harmonized IFI Default Grid Factors 2021 v3.2.
- Water Saved is calculated based on the water consumption of solar and wind power plants compared against the various sources of power generation in each country where Vena Energy operates in. Unique water savings factors were calculated for each country based on respective country energy mix obtained from International Energy Agency (2020-21) and water use intensity factors from a paper titled “Water Demand Scenarios for Electricity Generation at the Global and Regional Levels” by Terrapon-Pfaff, et al., (2020)
- Equivalent Cars Removed from the Road is based on annual GHG emissions of passenger vehicles obtained from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, last updated: April 2023.
- Equivalent Trees Planted is based on the amount of GHG sequestered by a medium growth coniferous or deciduous tree, planted in an urban setting and allowed to grow for 10 years, data obtained from the United States Environmental Protection Agency website, last updated: Mar 2024.
Sustainable Partnerships
To further integrate sustainability into how we conduct business, we actively support partnerships and initiatives to advance the sustainability agenda.
The United Nations Global Compact
The United Nations Global Compact as a strategic policy initiative for organizations commits to align with the ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. Vena Group participates in the United Nations Global Compact global movement to disclose publicly our commitments and progress and to shape the world’s sustainability agenda.
Environmental Considerations
We recognize that protecting and preserving biodiversity, maintaining ecosystem services, and sustainably managing natural resources are prerogatives of sustainable development. We promote responsible behavior and support conservation efforts to preserve the environment and biodiversity in the Asia-Pacific region.
Carbon Emissions
Vena Group creates direct and indirect emissions from fuel combustion of our corporate vehicles and machinery, and the generation of purchased electricity at our corporate and site offices (Scope 1 & 2 emissions). Using our 2022 scope 1 and 2 emissions as a baseline, we have set targets to reduce our operational carbon intensity by 65% by 2030 with the aim to be completely carbon neutral by 2050.
Water Conservation and Management
The reduction of water usage leads to less energy and chemicals used in the treatment and pumping of water, which further reduces our carbon footprint. A moderate amount of water is used to clean dust from our solar panels so they can increase the generation of clean energy. However, wind and solar generation assets do not use water to generate power, and therefore do not strain the water supplies needed for agriculture, drinking or sanitation.
Waste Management and Disposal
Vena Group maintains a commitment to minimizing waste generation and managing waste responsibly across all stages of our operation. Waste volumes remain relatively low across our renewable energy portfolio, particularly during the operational phase, and are generally non-hazardous in nature.
Environmental and Social Impact Management
Vena Group prioritizes responsible and sustainable development, as well as environmental protection and preservation throughout the project lifecycle.
Engagement with communities and stakeholders remains central to our development strategy. By fostering transparent and responsive relationships with landowners, local communities, and authorities, we help to ensure both the long-term viability and social acceptance of our projects.
