From Engineers to Entrepreneurs: Kompas TV Spotlights Vena Group’s Gender Equality Initiatives

Vena Group’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment in Indonesia was recently highlighted on Kompas TV’s national broadcast. The feature showcased how our solar energy projects are breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for women across technical and entrepreneurial fields.

Women’s growing impact in clean energy

The report featured Nur Fitryah, an engineer at our Lombok Solar Project, as she spoke with Kompas TV onsite at the facility housing 21,000 solar panels. Nur explained how women bring valuable perspectives to renewable energy work, particularly highlighting the thoroughness and attention to detail that helps ensure optimal operations.

At the facility, four engineers manage daily operations. Two of whom are women, reflecting efforts to actively recruit and support women in technical roles. Nur acknowledged that while there are still challenges with gender stereotypes, the growing presence of female engineers is proving that gender diversity strengthens teams and improves outcomes.

Empowering women entrepreneurs

Beyond our technical workforce, Vena Group’s CSR programs are transforming lives in local communities. Since 2019, we’ve supported the Jeger Buana Lombok Business Development Group (JBL), helping women turn cassava waste into a thriving chips business.

What started as one production house has expanded to four, creating sustainable income for 25 women and their families. The success has been transformational for mothers who previously had no income and can now contribute to household expenses, children’s education, and even purchase motorbikes and household appliances.

The programs reflect a comprehensive approach to women’s economic empowerment, built around five key performance indicators that include employment opportunities through solar technical training, support for women entrepreneur groups, and targeted empowerment initiatives.

The Kompas TV feature was part of broader coverage following Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda’s visit to our Lombok solar projects in July. The visit highlighted ADB’s partnership with Vena Energy on renewable energy development across Eastern Indonesia including solar projects in Lombok and North Sulawesi. During his visit to Lombok, President Kanda said: “This initiative demonstrates that renewable energy projects can be catalysts for broader economic development. The benefits for women’s economic empowerment were particularly striking.”

By investing in women’s participation in renewable energy, both as technical professionals and entrepreneurs, we’re building a more inclusive and sustainable future for Indonesia. At Vena Group, we are committed to engineering a greener future, empowering women as equal participants, leaders, and beneficiaries—creating lasting impact across the Asia-Pacific region.
