Vena Group’s Australian team has partnered with Murilla Kindergarten (an early childhood education centre for children aged three to five) in Miles, Queensland, to launch a new After-Kindy Care Programme for local families. Miles sits in the Western Downs region, where Vena Group’s renewable energy arm, Vena Energy, operates the Wandoan South solar and battery precinct.
The Vena Group After-Kindy Care Programme runs Monday to Thursday through 2026 and 2027, accommodating up to 10 children per day. The programme bridges the gap between the end of the kindergarten day and the close of the standard working day. It is led by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher and built around intentional play-based experiences including arts and crafts, outdoor exploration, group games and quiet relaxation time. Children continue learning within Australia’s Early Years Learning Framework, in a familiar environment they already know.
The initiative responds to feedback from local families who identified the need for more flexible care options to support workforce participation and work-life balance. With limited access to after-hours childcare available in Miles, the programme gives families a practical alternative to travelling considerable distances for care.
Ingrid Uebergang, President of the Murilla Kindergarten Association Inc., says Vena Group’s support has made a remarkable difference for families.
"The programme has reduced barriers to employment and provided families with greater flexibility and financial stability, particularly for mothers returning to work who can now do so knowing their children are in a familiar, high-quality environment. For our rural community, this support has been even more significant. Access to quality early childhood care close to home isn't always a given, and without this programme many families would face the added burden of travelling considerable distances for after-hours care. Being able to offer that locally has eased real pressure on parents and kept children learning and socialising within their own community."
